ENCAUSTIC
THE ART OF BIRDS (2025)
In these works, I aim to evoke a hopeful energy that can be found in the boldness and freedom of nature - in particular, the birds. Each artwork begins with foundational layers of my eco-prints and cyanotypes, which are digitally altered to create unique botanical and textural underpinnings. These rich, detailed layers are then enveloped by encaustic wax, adding a distinctive texture and depth, before final details of loose splatter marks are added.
The combination of bold colors and contrasting textures speaks to the importance of a balance in the natural world and in our lives. For me personally, creating these pieces felt hopeful during a time in our world where hope isn’t always easy to find. They are a reminder to me that, when life doesn’t feel hopeful, I can create a feeling of hope for myself through art and by observing the natural world.

CHASING BLOOMS (2025)
Growing up, I remember things feeling so magical. We spent endless hours outdoors... riding bikes, building forts, making up fantasy worlds that we lived in until dinnertime. Still today, I am forever rediscovering that sense of wonder out in nature - while hiking, bird watching, or sleeping in hammocks under the stars. This series harkens back to those early years and the sense of magic I have always found in nature. The process involves combining eco-prints and cyanotypes with bright encaustic wax layers. This kind of work always leaves me chasing the wonders of nature - where wildflowers open their faces to the sun and all of life seems simpler and more magical. This body of work is continuing and evolving from some original works in 2023. Below are two sub-sets created for different galleries.

BLOOM WHERE YOU’RE PLANTED (2023)
From Maine to Utah, you’ll find many landscapes hidden in these pieces – and with them, my memories of finding wonder wherever I am In my life. Experiences of discovering tiny worlds in tide pools at Mount Desert Island. Or watching my husband and daughter brought to tears when they saw the Grand Canyon for the first time. Or endless hours spent in the woods here in Ohio. No matter what is happening in my life, nature is always part of it.
Each piece from this series begins with initial layers of my naturally dyed eco prints mounted onto panels. Clear wax and old topographic maps are then laid over top as image transfers. The topmost layers is created with a handmade template of botanical shapes and white encaustic wax. Each work is a celebration of the places and memories that have shaped who I am today.
