Luminous New Work
I’m excited to share my new series of work for the “Luminous” exhibit at Lark & Key Gallery. I explored the more subtle aspects of light as I worked on these pieces. Created by layering creamy encaustic wax, touches of metal leaf, and the deep moody blues of wet cyanotypes - I feel like they build a dreamlike world. A place of secrets that shimmer and dance beneath the surface. Maybe speaking to the parts of ourselves that we keep hidden, and only let the world see in a brief glimmer. Or perhaps they are a map of the lingering presence of light—the enduring "afterglow" of connection and memory that remains long after the source has faded.
As some of you know, this has been a season of unexpected loss. We said goodbye to our sweet husky-greyhound recently. Our star-eyed girl, who traveled the country, backpacked the wilderness, and couch potatoed with us for 13 beautiful years.
In a quiet, personal tribute to Rosie, I’ve integrated rose gold leaf and copper pigments into the final layers of these pieces. For me, this serves as a gentle, lasting shimmer, honoring the beauty of what remains and a life well-lived. These pieces will always have a special place in my heart, as will our sweet Rose.
