BLOOM WHERE YOU’RE PLANTED

From Maine to Utah, you’ll find many landscapes hidden in these pieces – and with them, my memories of finding wonder wherever I am In my life. Experiences of discovering tiny worlds in tide pools at Mount Desert Island. Or watching my husband and daughter brought to tears when they saw the Grand Canyon for the first time. Or endless hours spent in the woods here in Ohio. No matter what is happening in my life, nature is always part of it.

Each piece from this series begins with initial layers of my naturally dyed eco prints mounted onto panels. Clear wax and old topographic maps are then laid over top as image transfers. The topmost layers is created with a handmade template of botanical shapes and white encaustic wax. Each work is a celebration of the places and memories that have shaped who I am today.

ELEMENTAL

This year has been filled with discovery. I have been making art and traveling across the country with my family for several months… creating with limited supplies in entirely new environments. I’ve chosen to use the plant life wherever we travel in order to create this work - using a combination of cyanotype and eco-printing processes to print with leaves and flowers I’ve never worked with before. 

This work has unfolded into something otherworldly that seems to whisper of the basic elements of life. I see glimpses of both large and small worlds in them… vast landscapes and microscopic cellular worlds. This time of travel has been a beautiful process of expanding and contracting creatively - learning to flow with nature's rhythms and to trust what will come.
