A project I began in late 2018, this series is exploring self-imposed limitations and marking their place within the history of the growth and development of a person’s life. Through simple, bold compositions showing the figure in a vulnerable and bare state, each image explores ways that I have limited my own self through my life. Some of these are struggles which I have grown past, while others are areas in which I am still working to overcome - with varying degrees of success. The first two images of this series, titled “Self Defeat” and “Self Inflicted”, were photographed at a time in which I felt myself growing past some self limiting beliefs I’ve struggled with my whole life. The images for me serve as a marker, a visual acknowledgement of finally pushing past those limitations and being able to honor them as a part of my past… part of my own story of becoming.
